Edith Murway: The 99 Year-Old Record-Breaking Weightlifter

Have you ever had a desire or goal in mind, but failed to tackle it because you thought it just might be too difficult? Not Edith Murway. This incredible female powerlifter can deadlift up to 165lbs. Here’s the kicker, she’s 99 years old! Edith started powerlifting at the ripe young age of 91, and has since gone on to set a Guinness World Record for the oldest competitive powerlifter!

Murway says she lives for the applause; it keeps her going and motivates her to try harder and lift more. However, like many others, COVID-19 threw a wrench into her progress, as she was kept away from her trainer and her fans. Now, over a year later, she is getting back into the swing of it, full steam ahead. “It’s like starting all over again,” she said. “It’s a challenge, and it’s a lot of fun. It’s something that I never thought I would be doing, and here I am doing it.”

Edith Murway is living proof that age is just a number; fitness is a journey, and you can do incredible new things at all stages of life. Murway doesn’t let her life circumstances stop her from achieving her dreams, and neither should you! We hope this story inspires you like it did us. Remember, you always have TNBC in your corner cheering you on.
